Franklin County sheriff threatens to withhold state funds, protest jail status
Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said he plans to withhold the jail’s upcoming $314,000 semi-annual payment to the state and is helping to organize a protest on Wednesday of the county jail’s diminished status as a 72-hour holding facility.

Farmington man charged with drug crimes
Scott Bard, 41, of Farmington, was charged with unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs when he reportedly tried to leave his residence with oxycodone, methadone drug paraphernalia and about $1,500, according to Special Agent Supervisor Matthew Cashman of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
