HIGH SCHOOL FIELD HOCKEY: Winslow makes big plays to earn big win
Facing a tough Oceanside team, Winslow needed those big plays in the first half. Alyssa Wood denied the Mariners two great scoring opportunities, and goalie Delaney Wood made some big saves. Brooke Haskell scored twice in the second half, and Winslow had a 2-0 victory.

What Cony lacks in numbers, it makes up for with conditioning, and that may have been the difference Saturday afternoon as the Rams edged out Lawrence, 2-1, behind two goals by junior Arika Brochu.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Lawrence’s struggles continue with loss to Westbrook
Westbrook made its case by gutting out an 8-3 victory over the Bulldogs. It’s the first loss at Keyes Field for Lawrence since being upset by Brunswick in the 2010 quarterfinals, and the first regular-season home loss for the Bulldogs since falling to Oxford Hills on Sept. 16, 2005.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Fredette out at Winslow
Kevin Fredette said he was fired Wednesday morning from his jobs as wrestling coach at Winslow High School and assistant football coach at Winslow Junior High. Eric Haley, the superintendent of AOS 92, confirmed Fredette is no longer coaching in the school district. Haley said he could not comment on why Fredette is no longer coaching.

HIGH SCHOOL FIELD HOCKEY NOTEBOOK: Young Oak Hill excells
Wednesday’s victory over Telstar put Oak Hill in third place in the Western C field hockey standings. The Raiders (7-4-1) start five juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. The first player off the bench is also a freshman. And though Oak Hill coach Betsy Gilbert coached the Raiders from 2005 to 2010, she is technically a first-year coach.
