GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bulldogs pull away late in win over Mustangs
MADISON — Madison girls basketball coach Al Veneziano liked what he saw from his team’s defense and liked how different players got involved in the scoring. Combined with Monmouth coach Scott Wing, that made two things the coaches were happy to see Wednesday night.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL: Messalonskee beats Skowhegan for 3rd straight victory
SKOWHEGAN — When the Messalonskee girls basketball team graduated about two-thirds of its offense, it looked like the Eagles would have to scrap for every win they could get this season. That was reinforced when the Eagles lost two of their first three games, including back-to-back losses to Bangor and Lawrence by a combined 40 points.

FARMINGTON — They won after their center fouled out in the final minutes of a close game. They won despite being out-rebounded by seven in the second half. They won with a freshman taking their big foul shots in the final 41 seconds.

WATERVILLE — You would expect that Alex and Erica Jenson’s parents were lifelong competitive skiers. They weren’t. Ironically, that made it more likely that the Jenson sisters would get into skiing at an early age.
