Travis Lazarczyk has covered sports for the Morning Sentinel and Kennebec Journal since 2000. A Vermont native, he graduated from the University of Maine in 1995 with a BA in English. After a few years working as a sports information director and in the ski industry, he began his journalism career at the Berlin (N.H.) Reporter in 1999. Over the years, Lazarczyk has been honored with numerous state, regional, and national awards for his work, including a first place for column writing from the Associated Press Sports Editors in 2011, and inclusion in Notable Sports Writing of 2009 in Best American Sports Writing. When not working, he can be found, reading, hiking, or drinking too much coffee.

HEBRON — There was a time when all the pressure to win the Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl was on the West. The West won the first nine games in the annual football game to raise money for the Shriner’s Hospitals. When the East finally won a game, in 1999, the West went and won three more in a row.

AUTO RACING: Busch tunes up for TD Bank 250
OXFORD — Kyle Busch ran a few laps around Oxford Plains Speedway, then he’d have his crew tinker with the new car, built by Dale Shaw for Busch to race in the TD Bank 250 on July 24. Then it would be back to the track for some more laps, followed by more work on the car.
