At least one legislator is paying attention to voters
I’d like to thank Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, for responding quickly to my letters to the editor and for the concern he has about all the matters that I have addressed. His actions have amended my negative feelings about some of our politicians. Maybe Saviello should be the one running for president, because I am […]

We need to stop letting GOP define arguments
I just heard a news report about how the unemployment rate is dropping; the number of jobs created in December increased.

Target of professor’s ire should be Bratz, not Lego

Vehicles are not toys, but powerful machines
I just read another article about another young adult dying in a car accident. When will these young adults, whether it be a teenager or a 20-something, realize that a vehicle is a very powerful machine and that they are to be taken seriously, not thought of as a toy? Kathy Allen Waterville

Our bankrupt country should cut all foreign aid
Amazing, isn’t it, that the 80-plus millionaires in Washington, D.C., have no interest in bailing out Social Security, Medicare or the postal service? A well-known evangelical leader (and author) Francis Schaeffer has asked, “Where has the faith community (evangelical, etc.) been for the last 40 years?” I don’t think they have been at the voting booth because secular forces in the United States […]

Stranger stayed with victim of accident until help came
I would like to express my appreciation to the people who stopped and assisted my mother after her automobile accident on Dec. 2 on U.S. Route 201A. It is wonderful to know there are still people willing to help a stranger in a time of need. It was so comforting for me to know that […]

Take a close look at gas company’s TIF requests
I have read the many stories about Kennebec Valley Gas Co.’s requests for tax relief. Madison recently held a referendum to ask voters to bond for the development of a natural gas pipeline from Richmond to Madison. Our board of selectmen was in favor of the project. Before the vote, Kennebec Valley Gas Co. paid […]

Other ways to handle Farmingdale firearms flap
A recent article indicated that the Farmingdale Board of Selectmen is considering a revision of the town’s firearms ordinance that would further restrict the use of muzzle-loading firearms east of the Maine Turnpike. The change was triggered by a complaint by a Russell Street resident “that someone has been firing a black-powdered weapon toward his […]
