Photos: Iconic Lincoln Academy bell tower taken down in Newcastle
The bell tower that has been a symbol of Lincoln Academy since the school house was built in 1867 was removed Friday due to significant structural issues. Officials are raising funds to repair it. The bell is an important part of school traditions, with sports teams getting to ring it after clinching a championship. The bell is also rung at the beginning of each school day.
