As we cast votes in Maine’s U.S. Senate race this year, we should remember that President Trump has asked voters to pretend that he’s on the ballot.

For once, I agree with him. Trump’s domestic and foreign policies have been disastrous, with tariffs, rising inflation and and war in Iran at the top of a long list. He has indicated that he wants to lead like a dictator, focused on relentless attacks on voting and election results and expressing admiration for Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.

Although Sen. Susan Collins holds a position of influence in the Senate, she has not provided a meaningful check on Trump’s power. She voted to advance the “big, beautiful bill” then voted against it. She voted in support of the war in Iran then voted against it. She has also voted for the vast majority of Trump’s dismal administration and judicial nominations.

Donald Trump is on the ballot. Let’s vote against him and Collins, and for Troy Jackson.
