Sunday protests remind that we can voice opinions

Although I do not always agree with the position or message of the weekly Skowhegan Sunday bridge protests, the whistles and honking of horns that I hear from my apartment are a grounding reminder that we live in a country where we have the right to speak up and voice our opinions.

Rail Trail is wonderful; we all should use it wisely

My wife and I love cycling the Kennebec River Rail Trail, and we are always polite and considerate to others using the trail.

Why are Toy Run bikes allowed to break the law?

It is getting the time of year again for the annual obnoxious Toy Run, with its ear-splitting noise and no help from local law enforcement, even though the noise is totally illegal.

Limiting communication to email excludes some

I paid my membership at a local gallery hoping to exhibit some of my paintings. I didn't realize, however, that I was required to have a computer in order to deal with gallery staff.

Today, King likely would advocate for animal rights

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famed "I Have a Dream Speech," I am guessing that today, King would still be espousing the principles that he did in 1963: racial equality, justice for the oppressed and nonviolence.

School shouldn’t start until after Labor Day

I feel the urge to comment on the Aug. 23 editorial in the Morning Sentinel. I agree with an after Labor Day start to the school year. I disagree with the assumptions made that a later start "puts low-income kids at a disadvantage."
