Thank our heroes, Godfor America’s blessings
Soon it will be the Fourth of July, Independence Day, when America will celebrate everything great about the land of the free and the home of the brave. America, the greatest nation ever, did not come easily, but at great cost in both lives and fortunes by a great number of men and women from varied backgrounds. Heroes every one.

New graduates could fill all the empty job slots
I was glad to see that the "Floridian" in the governor's office reminded recent college graduates to be respectful. Today's youth need good role models.

Prosecuting war while lowering taxes a bad idea
A few years ago, I was talking with Sen. Herman Talmadge from Georgia, who had served on the Senate Finance Committee for many years.

GOP agenda dominated by insatiable greed

We old timers really appreciate their dedication under the conditions they have to do this work. I hope their companies find some way to reward […]

Thanks to teens who aided motorists in sudden flood
My car was one of those damaged in the flooding at Elm Plaza after a recent sudden, torrential downpour in Waterville. The last thing I expected to see when I’d finished my grocery shopping was murky water, three-quarters of the way up my tires after the storm drains failed. Some cars were even worse off […]

Demise of July 4th parade sees retirement of red boots
Rarely has one had the opportunity to experience such adulation, and abuse, all in the same public event. I am writing these words in farewell to the West Athens Fourth of July parade. For the last 10 years, almost one-quarter of its nearly 40-year history, I have paraded along its “corner of nowhere” route. Its […]
