    Supreme Court decision will cripple health care

    By upholding Obamacare the Supreme Court has changed this county as we know it. I worked in health care 40 years and this act will cripple health care: higher premiums, longer wait times to see a physician, denied/delayed surgeries, etc. Socialized medicine has not been successful even in Canada, but here we go following their lead.

    Moscow should get out of the school district now

    The School Administrative District 13 school board is planning on closing both the Quimby and Moscow schools, then building a multi-million dollar expansion to the high school to house all the kids there. The high school was designed to hold more than 300 children. Why build an extension?

    Remarks intended forfuture Winthrop budgets

    In the reporting on the June 25 public meeting on the proposed property tax increase included in the town of Winthrop's municipal budget I was quoted, correctly, as stating that "a little give on the public employees side as well" may be called for in future years' budget negotiations.

    On what would have been my 40th wedding anniversary, I went to place a rose on my husband's grave in a cemetery in Manchester, only to find that a decorative planter that had been there for 12 years had been stolen.

    Church dress code showsall are NOT welcome

    Appearing in the St. Michael's Church Bulletin June 23-24 was the directive "What to Wear for Church." The following excerpts will be quoted: "Shorts for men or women, bare backs, low cut tops, etc. are not appropriate clothing for those who are coming to worship God. Nor are shirts with rock groups or beer commercials."

    Decreases in increases do not mean ‘cuts’ in RSU 18

    Decreases in planned spending increases do not produce "cuts" as most voters understand it. This is why the budget for RSU 18 was defeated by Belgrade, China, Oakland, Rome and Sidney voters.
